Reviews Overview

Most Liked

The fish and chips here are freshly cooked, with a renowned light batter that keeps you coming back for more. The generous portions of chips, especially in the large meals, justify the very reasonable prices. Many regulars rave about the tasty cod, and the battered sausages are a hit with both kids and adults.

Another top feature is the ice-cold drinks available on-site, perfect for washing down your hearty meal. The staff are known for their friendliness and efficiency, often serving quickly even during busy times. It’s this blend of quality food and warm service that fosters a loyal customer base, enticing many to drive from neighboring towns just to indulge here.

Most Disliked

Although The Tall Ship provides a stellar menu of fish and chips, some patrons note the lack of extensive seating options. With only a couple of tables inside, it may not be ideal for those looking to dine comfortably during peak times, especially when the restaurant is bustling on Friday evenings. Many choose takeaway instead, which, while efficient, may not provide the cozy dining experience some hope for.

Additionally, considering the popularity of the shop, wait times can vary during peak hours. If you visit during the busy dinner rush, patience is needed. This can deter some who prefer a quicker dining experience.

A really good place for fish and chips. The shop provides an area with two small tables where you can sit and dine. I sometimes do so. On this occasion I took the take-away option. The take away is served in a fold-out cardboard box, that’s better and easier to manage. Perfect chips every time; fresh cooking oil and good quality potato is used. The cod is always in a light batter . The portions are huge . I like the fact that they have a big fridge of soft drinks inside the shop and the soft drinks are ice-cold, I always order a can of Diet Coke or 7-up to wash down the meal. Very reasonably priced too. The staff are very friendly and once they know you, very generous on the chip portions for you . It’s a firm favourite and ( always busy). The food is always cooked to order and not left standing, so it’s hot when served.

Loved the place since I was a kid and staff always great. Chips are on point and very rarely don't cut the normal quality. It's a simple fish and chips but at least they know how to do them well and size portion is much appreciated ☺️ (try the hake)
